George D. Smith, retired truck driver

George D. Smith, 87, of Ellendale, passed away Monday, May 14, 2018, at Milford Memorial Hospital. He was born in Milford Feb. 18, 1931, to the late James Courtland and Cora Irene Smith.

George was a member and elder of the Milford Congregation of Jehovahs Witnesses. He started his career as a mechanic, and then was drafted into the U.S. Army where he worked at Walter Reed Medical Hospital. Following his time in the Army, George was a local truck driver for over 50 years. He had a strong drive to help others, and possessed a strong love for his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Winona H. Smith; and his son Kenneth L. Smith. He is survived by his two children, Wanda Lee Ferebee and Dan L. Smith; three grandchildren, Sara J. Street, Leah E. Smith and Lindsey T. Smith; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A visitation will be held Saturday, May 19 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford. A memorial service will be held that same day at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses, 509 Airport Road, Milford, at 3:30 p.m. Interment will be private.
