George A. Robertson, accomplished attorney

George A. Robertson, 87, passed away peacefully at Harbor Healthcare in Lewes, Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017.  

George was born in Keystone, W.Va., April 21, 1930, to Lavenia and Phillip “PK” Robertson.  However, at a very young age George was sent to be raised by his loving Aunt Laura (Laura O’Leary) and “Unc” (George O’Leary). 

 Aunt Laura and Unc made sure that George got an exceptional education at Catholic, military boarding schools in Charleston, W.Va., Ohio, and North Carolina.  George then attended college at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio and law school at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., (where he was proud of the fact that he finished his three-year J.D. in only two years).  In between college and law school, and based on his military school education and ROTC at Xavier, George served as an officer in the U.S. Army, with his final posting as a Rocket Artillery Unit Commander in Germany.  After law school, George worked his entire career as an attorney in Washington, D.C.  Along the way he met his loving wife, Linda (Gutekunst) Robertson, whom he married in 1968.  Their only child, Vincent Robertson, was born Feb. 18, 1969.  George loved golf, and he and Linda were longtime members of Springfield Golf and Country Club in Springfield, Va., where they had many friends. 

In addition to his parents, aunt and uncle, George was predeceased by his wife Linda Robertson.  He is survived by his son, Vince Robertson; his daughter-in-law Carrie Robertson; and his beloved grandchildren, Ian and Dane Robertson, all of Lewes and Rehoboth Beach. 

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 10 a.m., at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church, 7600 Old Keene Mill Road; Springfield, Va.  Burial will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park, 9900 Braddock Road; Fairfax, Va.  Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Lewes.
