George Roy Hellens, lifelong farmer

 George Roy Hellens, 92, of Harbeson, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.

George Roy was born in Milford, son of the late George W. and Sarah Mildred (Watson) Hellens. He was a lifelong farmer and retired in 2010. Although retired, he continued to be involved in the industry. He especially enjoyed spending time raccoon, rabbit and deer hunting, and watching NASCAR.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hellens was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Reese E. Wilson.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Sarah Catherine (Wilkerson) Hellens; four children, Charlotte A. Wilson, Marlyn L. Warrington and husband Charles "Spark", Roy Wayne Hellens and wife Carol, and R. Greg Hellens and wife Barbara; seven grandchildren, Brian Wilson and wife Miriam, Ruth Ann Reynolds and husband Troy, Kathy Kelly and husband Thomas, Michael Hellens and companion Heather Rodriquez, Sharon Pyle and husband Matthew, Lisa Renee Messick, and Robert Greg Hellens and wife Carrie; as well as 13 great-grandchildren and one stepgreat-grandson.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 2, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton with visitation after 1 p.m. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, Del 19963.
