George W. Schwobel, TWA maintenance mechanic

Mr. George W. Schwobel, 84, of Lewes passed away peacefully in the care of his family and Delaware Hospice Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018. 

Mr. Schwobel was born in Queens, N.Y., May 27, 1933. He retired from TWA Airlines where he worked as a maintenance mechanic. He moved to Lewes in 2009 from North Port, Long Island, N.Y.

George was a member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Lewes. He was an avid fisherman and participated in shark tournaments in Montauk Point, Long Island. He enjoyed traveling, bowling, golf, and all major sports. Most of all he loved woodworking, building furniture, cabinets, tables and chairs, as well as crosses and other religious symbols.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, June R. Schwobel of Lewes; two sons, George B. Schwobel and his wife Lucy of Lewes, and Robert M. Schwobel and his wife Lisa of Blue Point, Long Island; a sister, Madeline Burke of East Northport, N.Y.; one grandson, Eric W. Schwobel and his wife Christina of Georgetown; a great-grandson, Alexander M. Schwobel; as well as a special cousin, Robert W. Diemer of Lewes.

A viewing will be held Friday, Feb. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 17, at New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3072 Savannah E. Dr., Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in George's memory to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
