Georgetown man charged, Rehoboth man sought in Georgetown assault

A Georgetown man faces assault and robbery charges, and a Rehoboth Beach man is sought after police say they beat a man June 5 and left him lying near a Georgetown roadway.

Police went to the 300 block of North Race Street when they found a man lying near the road, said Detective Joey Melvin of the Georgetown Police Department. Melvin said the man was in the area of Douglas Street when two men assaulted him. 

On June 7, police charged Andrew Long Sr. 55, of Georgetown with second-degree assault, second-degree robbery and conspiracy. Long was arraigned and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on unspecified bond.

Also charged was a 29-year-old Rehoboth Beach woman in connection with providing a false statement, hindering prosecution and conspiracy. She was released on $6,000 unsecured bond.

Georgetown Police have active warrants for Andrew Long III in connection with the assault.
