Gerald M. “Jerry” Frampton, physical therapist

Gerald M. “Jerry” Frampton, 87, of Milton, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017, at the Delaware Veterans Home in Milford. He was born Oct. 26, 1929, in Baltimore, Md., son of the late Raymond Vincent Frampton and Madge Weber Frampton. He was preceded in death by his brother Vincent and sister, Ann.

Mr. Frampton was a 1947 graduate of Petersburg High school in Petersburg, Va., and went on to graduate from the University of Richmond. He then continued on to receive his bachelor's degree in applied science from the Richmond Professional Institute and then his certificate in physical therapy from the Medical College of Virginia.

Following school he began his career in Physical Therapy which was his passion throughout life. His abilities were utilized at many of the health care centers throughout Delaware, including Lewes Convalescent Center, Harrison House of Georgetown, Harbor Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, and in private practice at the Sussex Physical Therapy Associates. However, Jerry's greatest accomplishment was in establishing the physical therapy departments at Kent General Hospital, Milford Memorial Hospital and Beebe Hospital, retiring as physical therapy director from Beebe after 32 years of service.

He was a member of Groome United Methodist Church in Lewes where he sang in the choir; was a former member of the American Physical Therapy Associates; was a veteran of the U.S. Army; and was a member of AA, and offered support to many in need. In his spare time, golfing was an avid endeavor of his and he could often be found on the course at Sussex Pines or The Rookery where he had been a former member of each.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Retta Rose Frampton; daughter Allison Burgos (Alberto) of Dover; two grandchildren, Samantha Jane Parker (Josh), and Candice Rodriguez (Danny); five great-grandchildren, Emily Ann, Alex and Elizabeth Rodriguez, and Ryan and Nolan Parker; stepdaughter Kathryn Sue Houck (Louis) of Waverly, Pa.; and stepson Frank Mackall Young (Eileen), Lewes; and eight stepgrandchildren, Allison, John, Christopher, Sara Rose, Benjamin and Samuel Young, and Spencer and Brooks Houck.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, March 16, at 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m. Private burial will be held at the Milton Cemetery, Milton.
