Gerald Ralph Springer, avid fisherman

Gerald Ralph Springer, 75 of Lewes, passed away suddenly at home Thursday, July 14, 2016.  He was born Dec. 1, 1940, in Minquadale, the son of Jack M. and Grace (Marden) Springer.

Mr. Springer worked for many years as a machinist and supervisor for DuHadaway Tool & Die in Newark. He had many diverse hobbies; radio controlled airplanes being a favorite. Mr. Springer was also an avid fisherman, as well as being a vice president and former president of the Lewes R/C Club.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Springer was preceded in death by his brothers, William Springer and his wife Gertrude; and Jack Springer, all of New Castle; and his sister Nancy McBride and her husband Francis, of Claymont.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Helen (Walker) Springer; his son Gerald Springer Jr. (Jay) and his wife Kim of Eastampton, N.J.; his grandchildren Joshua and Jenna Springer of Eastampton; his sister-in-law Ruth Springer, of New Castle; and several nieces and nephews.     

A memorial service will be held Friday Aug. 19, at 2 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Lewes, where friends may call between 1 and 2 p.m.
