Gerald T. McPeake, retired mechanics teacher

Gerald T. McPeake, 92, of Georgetown, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 8, 2018, at Milford Center. Gerald was born in Welch, W.Va., son of the late Pierce and Grace Jane (Stone) McPeake.

Gerald worked as the auto mechanics instructor for many years at Sussex Vo-Tech and retired in 1987. Gerald had a knowledge and love of auto mechanics like no other. He had enjoyed farming, was an avid rose gardener and enjoyed traveling. He and his wife had taken several cross-country trips, never coming or going the same way twice. Gerald also had received his pilot's license and was involved with Civil Air Patrol. He thoroughly enjoyed flying.

Gerald was a man of many talents, headstrong and stubborn at times, but also able to calm any situation with his gentle and quiet spirit. He also served and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy. Gerald was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, the Masonic Lodge, as well as Nur Temple.

In addition to his parents, Gerald is preceded in death by a son, Danny McPeake of Wilmington; and four siblings; Richard McPeake of Pineville, W.Va., Eugene McPeake of Shady Spring, W.Va., Shirley Lindsey of Keyser, W.Va., and Faye Michael of Columbus, Ohio..

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Carolina McPeake; a daughter, Cara McPeake, of Newark; three stepchildren, Roy Morgan (Barbara), of Wilmington, Tina Barnett (Rush), of Ellicott City, Md., and Carolyn Lingo (Jim) of Milford; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec.13, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, as well as Thursday, Dec. 14, from 9 to 10 a.m., at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 202 Edward St., Georgetown, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will immediately follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
