Get ready to be inspired in Rehoboth Beach

October 28, 2016

Visionary urban planner Ed McMahon has said: “a small number of committed people can make a big difference in a community.” In Rehoboth Beach, we’ve seen this happen many times over many years. We are lucky to live in a city where citizens come out in force, give selflessly of their time and expertise, and contribute in a myriad of ways to make it a better place and assure our quality of life.

So, it’s not surprising that 10 civic organizations in Rehoboth and the Cape Gazette have come together to host a special lecture by Mr. McMahon, “The Secrets of Successful Communities,” Saturday, Nov. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon. It is being held on the second floor of the Rehoboth Fire Hall, 219 Rehoboth Avenue.

McMahon’s witty and insightful presentations include a TED Talk focusing on “a sense of place” – that unique collection of qualities and characteristics that provide meaning to a location, and make our physical surroundings worth caring about. McMahon believes that place is more than a location on a map and that the image of a community is fundamentally important to its economic well-being. McMahon also links successful tourism with successful communities. These communities combine strong leaders with committed citizens, and a clear vision for the future.

There is no charge for this event. However, you must register to attend the event at www.mcmahontalk.eventbrite.com. Capacity is limited, so register today!

McMahon’s visit next weekend comes at an opportune time, as Rehoboth continues its efforts to wisely balance growth, tourism and livability. We need to continue the conversation and involve even more citizens. Please join us and be prepared to get inspired!
