Giacomo Michael Saienni, had rich Italian heritage

Giacomo Michael Saienni, 89, passed away at his home in Rehoboth Beach, Wednesday, July 20, 2016, surrounded by his family and friends. 

Giacomo was a fine father, a grandfather, a DuPont retiree, a Navy veteran of World War II, and a proud member of the Delaware Diamond Dancers.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Doris Jean Saville Saienni.

Giacomo’s family includes his daugthers, Diane Saienni Albanese, and Denise Doctor and her husband Steven “Frankie” Doctor; and his grandsons William Paul Albanese III and his wife Lindsay Dancy Albanese, Nicholas Florentine Albanese and Alexander Michael Albanese. 

His father, Giacomo Saienni,  immigrated from the Abruzzi region in Italy in 1916, and together with his formidible mother, Anna Giorgi Saienni, had four children and lived in the Wilmington area in a farmhouse with a huge, bountiful garden.  The extended Saienni family enjoyed many happy times together that centered around homemade Italian food, music, dancing and lively celebrations of joyous life events. These traditions are carried on today by his extended family and many friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 25, at St. Edmond Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach, where friends may call between 10 and 11 a.m. Entombment will be at 2:30 p.m., at the Mausoleum of Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

All arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Lewes.
