November 15, 2017

Giant Food of Landover, Md., announced that all 167 Giant Landover store locations will participate in the Food 4 Families holiday food drive that will involve multiple efforts at store level and beyond to help hungry families.

Giant Food stores will be collecting nonperishable items through Thursday, Nov. 23, to be donated to five area Feeding America food banks: Food Bank of Delaware, Capital Area Food Bank, Maryland Food Bank, Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank. Items accepted include canned vegetables, canned fruits, canned tuna, salmon or chicken, grains, peanut butter and more.

Each Giant Food location will also be selling prepacked Nature's Promise meal boxes that customers can purchase for $10 each. Containing nourishing organic and free-from products such as whole wheat pasta, canned corn and canned black beans, customers can donate the boxes they purchase to the local Feeding America branches.

According to Capital Area Food Bank, 700,000 individuals in the Washington metro area are at risk of hunger. Local area food banks have relied on Giant Food and its generous customers for over 35 years to help fill their pantry shelves before the holidays.

"The holidays should be a time of joy for everyone. The Food 4 Families drive is a way we can bring our community together to support those facing hunger and food insecurity this holiday season," said President Gordon Reid, Giant of Landover, Md. "We have a long-standing partnership with our area food banks and look forward to helping them serve our community."
