Gilbert C. Laureigh, cherished his family

Gilbert C. Laureigh, 79, of Milton, passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, at Delaware Hospice Center. He was born Sunday, May 9, 1937 in East Orange, N.J., son of the late Arthur and Ethel (Williams) Laureigh.

Mr. Laureigh had a lifelong career as a pipefitter with Local #9 in New Jersey. He belonged to St. Edmond Parish, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of Star of the Sea Knights of Columbus. A proud U.S. Army veteran, he was also a member of American Legion Post 5 in Rehoboth Beach. He was an avid fisherman and a lover of animals who adored his pets, but more than anything he cherished time spent with his family. He was a caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, and he will be greatly missed.

Mr. Laureigh is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Joan (Zmijewski); his sons: Larry Laureigh of New Jersey, and Craig Allen Laureigh and his wife Lorraine of New Jersey; his daughters: Linda Ann Poor and her husband Michael of Florida, and Jennifer Joan Johnson and her husband Harry of Delaware; his brother, Walter Laureigh and his wife Sue of New Jersey; and seven grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m., at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach. A viewing will be held Friday, Jan. 20, from 7 until 9 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Mr. Laureigh's memory to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
