Gillis Gilkerson starts renovation of Jefferson II Apartments in Lewes

Gillis Gilkerson, one of the most stable and trusted construction management and general contracting firms on Delmarva, announced the start of construction for the renovation of Jefferson Apartments, phase II, at 825 Kings Highway in Lewes.

"This is the eighth affordable housing complex we have partnered on, and we know the renovations will add to the quality of life for the tenants and the surrounding community."

The project includes the comprehensive renovation of four buildings, 7,684 square feet each, and a new 450-square-foot office addition. Gillis Gilkerson will replace all building systems and install new windows, doors, kitchens, baths and all surfaces. Jefferson II will have a unit mix of 16 one-bedroom units and 16 two-bedroom units.

The project funding includes a mortgage by USDA Rural Development, low-income housing tax credits from Delaware State Housing Authority, equity from The Richman Group Affordable Housing Corporation, and a construction loan from TD Bank.

Gillis Gilkerson is working in partnership with Architectural Alliance Inc. and KM Construction Consulting LLC on the project. Gillis Gilkerson Project Manager Robin Steininger says completion is scheduled for summer 2018.
