August 26, 2016

The planning committee is in the final stages for the 10th Annual Go Red For Women Luncheon and Fashion Show, set for noon, Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Baywood Greens in Long Neck. Go Red for Women is sponsored by Beebe Healthcare and is the American Heart Association's national call for women by women to take charge of their health to live stronger, healthier lives.

Fashions will be presented by Twila Farrell and Blooming Boutique of Lewes and Something Comfortable, Orvis of Rehoboth. Tables will be decorated by Valery Cordrey of the East Coast Garden Center in Millsboro.

Doors open at 11 a.m. Free blood pressure screenings will be from 11 to 11:45 a.m. The guest speaker will be Christopher Genco, MD, a thoracic and cardiovascular surgeon from Beebe Healthcare.

Tickets have just gone on sale, and reservations go very quickly. Tables seat 10. Women reacquaint each year and look forward to meeting new residents and sharing a delightful afternoon. The ladies who attend normally wear red fashions and some hats to show their solidarity and commitment. The afternoon is filled with ticket auctions, silent auctions, giveaways and 50/50 and other surprises.

Go Red for Women began in 2006 when a representative from Beebe asked Pat Sandy to chair the first event. She had just lost her son to heart disease and she felt it was a good project, and for the last 10 years she has successfully devoted herself to the AHA and this program.

Cost is $30 per ticket; call 302-236-1537 or 302-226-7732.
