Thoughts from the sidelines

Golden State is in trouble

May 27, 2016

Unfortunately for basketball fans, there is a strong possibility the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors could be eliminated in the conference finals by the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Warriors would miss the opportunity to defend their championship. It would also be a sad way to end an historic season.

Golden State won the most games ever in the regular season with 73 wins. If the teams in the finals turned out to be Oklahoma City versus Cleveland, I will be torn as who to route for, since Lebron James and Kevin Durant are my two favorite players to watch.

This week, if the Phillies are going to keep up with the Washington Nationals and the New York Mets, they need to improve because they have lost their last 2 series against Detroit and even the last-place Atlanta Braves. In order for the Phils to keep the dream alive for most of the season, they will have to start winning at least two out of every three games, like they were at the beginning of this season. That will be tough this weekend since they are playing the first place Chicago Cubs and the Nationals in back-to-back series.

Exaggerator won the Preakness stakes on Saturday ending the hopes for back to back Triple Crown wins for this year's Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist. Nyquist finished third in absolutely terrible weather. It will make the Belmont Stakes a lot more exciting if Nyquist and Exaggerator are running neck and neck at the finish.

In an update from last week, the Syracuse Women's Lax team won their game to make it to the final four, in overtime, 12 to 11 over USC. If you want to watch the semifinal game, it will be on ESPN U this Friday at 7:30 against Maryland. Go Cuse!!!
