Grace Foulkrod, enjoyed a special bond

October 2, 2017

Grace Foulkrod was born Sept. 1, 1929, in Wilmington to the late Charles and Jennie Gilbert Foulkrod. She departed this life Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes at the age of 88.

Grace was a resident at the Stockley Center in Georgetown from an early age. During her stay at Stockley, Grace learned her social and independent skills which were taught through music. She was also employed at the Gerht Building where she painted ceramics.

The Gerht Building is also where she met Mrs. Shirley Mackey who later became her job coach. Grace was very fond of Mrs. Mackey. Later she worked at the greenhouse planting and repotting flowers which she enjoyed doing.

Mrs. Mackey decided to retire in 2001, and after having such a special bond with Grace, Mackey decided to move Grace in with her and her husband Henry. This move changed Grace’s life instantly. Grace was always traveling to North Carolina, Florida and Baltimore with the family.

She was always looking to ride and enjoyed shopping every day at the local Rose’s, Wal-Mart and Dollar Tree stores. The Acts Thrift Store in Ocean View was a place where you could always find Grace, Mrs. Mackey and her son Gene, along with her daughter and driver Tina.

Grace attended the Milford Senior Center where she was a member of the Red Hats Club and loved shopping for different things to outshine the other members. The staff members at the center became very fond of Grace and they loved her.

Grace lost her best friend (Shirley Mackey) in 2014. Mackey was known to Grace as mom-mom. Because of the bond that the family had with Grace, she was able to remain in the home with Mr. Mackey and his daughter Tina.

Grace leaves to mourn her passing a niece, Debbie Foulkrod of Seaford; her extended family Tina, Zahkharie and Tamara Midgette, all of Millsboro; The Bowden family, Troy, Glenda; TJ, Trey, Takoda, La'Asia and Shelton Bailey of Georgetown; Brian (Amy) Andrews and Jeff Townsend of Dover;, and a special little fellow Juelz Midgette of Millsboro; her pastor, the Rev. Annie J. Custis; and a host of friends.

A funeral service and Celebration of Grace's Life will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, at 1 p.m., at St. John's 2nd Baptist Church, 26602 Mt. Joy Road, Millsboro, with Pastor Annie Jane Custis officiating. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m., for visitation. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
