Grove Park to be closed until Jan. 25

Outfall piping going under Rehoboth Avenue

Grove Park in Rehoboth Beach will be closed until Thursday, Jan. 25 for construction on the force main for the city’s ocean outfall project.

Equipment from contractor A-Del Construction will be accessing the park through Grove Street. The Grove Park parking lot will remain open during construction, city spokeswoman Krys Johnson said.

A section of Grove Street near Henlopen Avenue will be closed, with access provided to local property owners only. Traffic will be maintained around construction zones and signs and protective barriers will be put up during construction. Johnson said while traffic impacts will be minimized as much as possible, people should plan for some delays.

Meanwhile, City Manager Sharon Lynn said A-Del has put on a third crew to help with the force main. One crew has been working near Canal Street, another in Grove Park and another on Henlopen Avenue in an effort to expedite work, Lynn said.

She said Canal Street will be closed for two months, as will Sixth Street to Rehoboth Avenue as A-Del begins digging a pit to go under Rehoboth Avenue. Drilling will go underneath Rehoboth Avenue and Grove Park and come out on Henlopen Avenue, where the pipe will continue to the Deauville Beach parking lot.
