Groves celebrates 50th annual commencement

Class of 2014 includes 27 students, ages 18 to 57

James H. Groves Adult High School celebrated its 50th annual commencement Aug.13, when 27 students, ages 18-57, graduated.

Graduate Chanteea Linette Harmon was the student speaker for the festive evening, telling fellow graduates and others gathered for graduation that  Groves has given her an opportunity for a better life.

District 19 state Senator Brian Pettyjohn presented the administration with a Senate Tribute honoring the school's 50th commencement.

U.S. Sen. Chris Coons gave the commencement address and conferred the diplomas along with Board of Education president George Torbert, III.

The 2014 graduates are Dalton Allen, Kenia G. Alonzo, Akeem Badger, John Ball-Kinsler, Bryan Bishop, Morgan Rae Brower, Shane Caldwell, Joshua Davis, Jean Aly Elean, Jose Escalante Agustin, Christopher Jose Fernandez, Chanteea Linette Harmon, Emily K. Hassman, Genaro Jimenez-Aboytes, Brooke Candace Allena Johnson, Shemieka Jones, Meghan Jane Kersey, Jenna Mason, Sherry Michie, Kevin Joseph Minnich, Sadie Marie Pusey, Alisha Michelle Rivera, Maria Guadelupe Sandoval Ramirez, Samual Upshur, Kenneth James Warchol, Sam Willard and Samantha Renee Wilson.
