Gustav A. Burnweit Jr., Meals on Wheels volunteer

Gustav A. Burnweit Jr., 87, died at his home in Lewes, Sunday, March 12, 2017.  He was born in Nyack, N.Y., Oct. 4, 1929, to Emilie and Gustav Burnweit. He grew up, raised his family, and resided in Rockland County, N.Y., until relocating to Delaware in 1997.
 
Gus was an avid hiker and New York Giants fan, an active member of the Rotary Club and proprietor of Burnweit Pontiac, a business founded by his father.  In recent years, he spent hours volunteering for Meals on Wheels and, during winters in Arizona, as a transporter at the local hospital.
 
Gus is survived by his loving wife Janet Lane Burnweit of Lewes; four daughters: Carol Cipura (Ted) of Bumpass, Va., Cathy Burnweit (Eric Aserlind) of Coral Gables, Fla., Nancy List (Ira) of New City, N.Y., and Sally Frick (Bob) of Red Hook, N.Y.;  10 grandchildren: Scott (Sarah), Kim (Jeff), Bradley, Alexandra, Bill, Michael, Kate, Dan (Kascy), Louisa and Greg; four great-grandchildren: Mirany, Tyler, Ryan and  Kyle; and a sister, Thirza Garwood.
 
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 25, at 2 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 1 p.m.
