Helen Murray Behringer, proud of Irish heritage

Helen Murray Behringer, 88, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Monday, May 28, 2018, at The Moorings at Lewes Healthcare Center (formerly Cadbury) after a long struggle with dementia.

Helen spent most of her life in Wilmington, moving to The Moorings in 2010 to be closer to her family. Born to Irish immigrant parents, Michael and Delia Murray, she was especially proud of her Irish heritage. She worked as a secretary for the Chrysler Corporation, but after fostering several children and then becoming a mother, she found her role as domestic engineer to be rewarding and a full-time position. She was most satisfied being a doting wife and mother. Helen loved gardening and fix-it projects long before HGTV was in fashion.

Helen was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Francis, who passed away in 2007; and her brother Francis, who passed away in 1938. She is survived by her son Michael and his husband, Nelson Correa of Rehoboth Beach; and her sister, Mary Wehner of Wilmington. She is also survived by her "family" at The Moorings - the nursing, activities, dining and housekeeping staff - whom the family wishes to thank for all of their years of kindness and friendship.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial Tuesday, June 12, at 11 a.m., in the upstairs auditorium of The Moorings, 17028 Cadbury Circle, Lewes. Attendees are encouraged to wear a touch of pink, as this was Helen's favorite color. A reception will follow immediately after the services at The Moorings. A joint interment of Helen and her husband Francis will be held the following morning, Wednesday, June 13, at 11:30 a.m., at the Michael Murray family gravesite at Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Ave., Wilmington.
