Herbert W. ‘Herb’ Chetirkin, retired manager

Herbert W. "Herb" Chetirkin, 89 of Dagsboro, passed away at his home Tuesday, July 18, 2017. He was born March 6, 1928, in Passaic, N.J., a son of the late Zachary and Olga Buss Chetirkin.

Mr. Chetirkin was a U. S. Navy veteran serving during World War II. Herb owned and operated the Boro Launderama in Totowa, N.J. He was also employed by Whirlpool Corporation, served as the national service manager for Fedders Corporation, and also worked for Emerson Quiet Kool before his retirement.

Herb loved cars, enjoyed gardening and taking care of his lawn, but he especially loved his grandchildren. He was a member of VFW Mason Dixon Post 7234, Ocean View and a member of Mariner's Bethel United Methodist Church of Ocean View. He was a past member of the Lions Club, Fenwick Island, and was a charter member of the Elks of New Jersey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Chetirkin.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Claris "Claire" J. (Young) Chetirkin; three children, Gail Overdevest and her husband Ed of Bridgeton, N.J., Karen Hardesty and her husband Scott of Severna Park, Md., and Lynn Mitzkewich and her husband Edd of Frenchtown, N.J.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, July 26, at Mariner's Bethel United Methodist Church, 81 Central Ave., Ocean View, where a memorial service will begin at noon. A reception will follow the services in the fellowship hall. Interment will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
