Hogs and Heroes donates to Ocean View Police Department

Donation to fund light kits for student bicycle safety program
May 25, 2017

Hogs and Heroes, a nonprofit that raises funds for military, police, firefighters and emergency responders, recently donated $300 to the Ocean View Police Department.

The money will help the department purchase light kits for its bicycle safety program. Since the program started in 2006, the department has installed more than 130 light kits and provided helmets for students who use bicycles as their main transportation in the Cape Region.

"We started a nighttime bike safety checkpoint due to the fact a lot of these students are riding late at night leaving jobs,” said Ocean View Police Department Chief Ken McLaughlin. “Our officers were buying light kits with their own money to install on these bikes.”

Hogs and Heroes was founded in 2008 and has chapters in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, North Carolina, Virginia and New Jersey. For more about the organization, go to hogsheroesfoundation.com.
