Hope lights the way at the Miracle Mile walk

June 13, 2017

The Miracle Mile marked National Cancer Day with a June 3 walk. A group of about 100 survivors and supporters gathered under the clear skies at All Saints’ Episcopal Church on Olive Avenue in Rehoboth for a morning walk on the Boardwalk. Before returning to the parish hall for a hot breakfast and fellowship, participants held hands in a circle on the beach and gave thanks for the community support and prayed for those currently fighting the battle, for cancer survivors and caregivers, and remembered those who have passed.

Arline Simpson and a group of fellow cancer survivors took to the Boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach 14 years ago to Light the Way. Simpson said the Miracle Mile walk was started to celebrate the solidarity cancer survivors feel. "It is so important to be there for one another," she said. "We are all in this together.

“Even if you personally don't have cancer, you likely know someone who has been affected by cancer. This walk is about celebrating the survivors; however, it is also about thanking and honoring the caregivers, because without their love and support, we could never get through it,” Simpson said.
