Immanuel Shelter Bubbles and Bites fundraiser a success

November 22, 2017

Immanuel Shelter, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that supports those experiencing homelessness in the Lewes, Rehoboth and Dewey Beach communities, announced its second annual Bubbles and Bites fundraiser held Oct. 28 was a huge success. More than $25,000 was raised at the event as the charity ramps up its Code Purple shelter activities for the upcoming winter season.

"We are so grateful to the local community, those who purchased tickets and attended the event, and all the local businesses that donated items for our auction, as well as our corporate sponsors," said Janet Idema, president of Immanuel Shelter.

"Due to the number of individuals experiencing homelessness in our communities growing every year, we are ramping up our fundraising activities as we move into 2018," said Cassandra Toroian, volunteer director of fundraising and development. "We will be more visible in the community going into 2018, raising awareness of the issues surrounding homelessness as well as kicking off our capital campaign beginning this holiday season."

Idema said, "Our goal is to raise $1.2 million with our capital campaign. The use of proceeds will allow us to renovate real estate we purchase as a permanent shelter site, as well as add more programs for those who come through our doors. Such things as self-help groups, spiritual support, job training and other services striving to stabilize and create self-sufficiency. We are hoping larger local businesses and corporations will want to become part of the solution and help us not only with cash donations but also with job offerings for those of our guests who aren't working and are very eager to learn and want to work."

The organization will be continuing its bingo in 2018 with enhancements such as hosting at various restaurants and themed bingo. In addition to continuing its Bubbles and Bites fundraiser next year, Immanuel  will roll out a surprise fundraiser during the summer.
