Inaugural Dash for a Draft 5K set April 8 in Milton

Benefits the horses of the Delaware State Police Mounted Patrol Unit

The Inaugural Dash for a Draft 5K supporting the Delaware State Police Mounted Patrol Unit Inc. will be held Saturday, April 8, at 10 a.m., starting and ending at Irish Eyes Pub, 105 Union St., Milton. Proceeds go to the expenses for care and training equipment of the horses in this very special and prestigious police unit.

The DSPMPU is a nonprofit organization. They enhance the traditional function of the Delaware State Police during public events and specialized patrol activities as well as paying formal respect to fallen comrades.

Preregistration for the Inaugural Dash for a Draft 5K is $25. After April 6 and on race day the cost is $30. Online registration is at www.races2run.com. On the day of the event registration will begin at 9 a.m. at Irish Eyes Pub. For those who want to attend and have fun, but not run, register as a guest for $5.

The course is USATF-certified with chip timing and goes through historic areas of Milton. Advance registration entrants receive a T-shirt. Awards will be given to overall male and female winners and masters male and female winners along with top three male and female finishers in 10-year age categories 13 and under to 70 and over as well as to the top three male and female walkers. The always great post-race party is sponsored by Irish Eyes. Beer and bloody Marys are available for participants age 21 and over.
