IR soccer wins father-son coaching matchup

Indians down Cape 4-0
April 8, 2017

Cape freshman girls’ soccer goalie Lucy Siranides made 20 stops in the April 4 game with Indian River, but the Vikings lost 4-0. Vikings coach Patrick Kilby’s father, Indian River coach Steve Kilby, put another W in the family competition column.

“They [Indian River] are very dynamic,” said Cape coach Patrick Kilby. “They move players from position to position within the game. It’s not something that they verbally do, so I can’t key in on what they’re saying. It’s something that is ingrained through training. We weren’t able to counter that as well as we would have liked. They are great at moving girls all over the field looking for weaknesses on our end, and it really works for them.”

The Indians put two on the scoreboard in the first half by junior Zena Lowman and two in the second by Madison Hogsten. Hogsten’s second goal was on a penalty kick at the 57-minute mark. Saylor Congleton, Hogston and Samantha Whelen each had an assist in the game.  Kilby was quick to praise the play of his freshman keeper.

“We are really pleased with Lucy’s [Siranides] play,” said the Cape coach. “She’s played every minute of every game, and she’s really come through for us.”

Cape was set to travel to Polytech April 6 for a match with the Northern Division Panthers.
