Ira Woodrow Hitchens, retired police officer

Ira Woodrow Hitchens, 81, of Georgetown passed away Monday, April 16, 2018, at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. He was born in Milford, the son of the late Woodrow Alton and Florence W. (Marvel) Hitchens.

Ira was a police officer for Georgetown Police Department and Milton Police Department and was a county constable for 15 years. He was a 50-year member (lifetime member) of Georgetown Volunteer Fire Company, having served as president, vice president, chairman of the executive board and fire police.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Williams) Hitchens; sons, Randy M. and James W. and wife Terri Hitchens; sister, Charlotte Adams of Millsboro; daughter-in-law Tracie Hitchens; grandchildren, Leslee (Brandon), Jay, Jenna and Malori; five great-grandchildren, Braydon, Braxton, Bentley, Liliana and Kora.

Full Fireman's Funeral services were held Friday, April 20, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown.
Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.
