Isner's ‘Superheroes’ art exhibit opens at Gallery 50 in Rehoboth Sept. 2

August 31, 2016

Rehoboth Beach artist Terry M. Isner will present his new work, "Superheroes," at Gallery 50 on Wilmington Avenue in Rehoboth Beach Friday, Sept. 2, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Isner describes his work as "A mash-up of comic books, superheroes, and shameless product and brand endorsements."

"My art is relatable to everyone – a smile on the wall that, in its simplest form, connects with you every time you see it, " said Isner. "The show is like what we experienced as kids watching cartoons or reading comic books and being interrupted by consumer product advertising."

Isner's work is inspired by pop culture, music, social and cultural issues, iconic images, product and brand advertising, and pop culture. "I love to intertwine the commercial world with graphic and iconic images, vintage toys and cartoons, for whimsical story telling," he said.

There are 11 pieces in the show featuring vintage comics and superheroes such as Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Aquaman, Batgirl and Yoda, mixed with brands like Amazon, 7up, Hostess and Lululemon. The works are created with acrylic paint on comic book pages decoupaged to the canvases.

With titles like "A Well-Oiled Machine," "Namaste You Will," and "Hostess with the Mostess," the exhibit is sure to be a super-fun show that will raise a lot of smiles.

Isner has donated several pieces over the last 15 years to the CAMP Rehoboth's fundraising events such as the Black and White Ball, HeART of the Community and Sundance. This year, he and Gallery 50 combined efforts and a portion of proceeds for sales of his work over this weekend will go to directly support Sundance 2016 for CAMP Rehoboth.

Gallery 50's master framer and manager, Ed McGann, stated, "This is the coolest show. You can't help but feel excited when you see these works. The characters and the brands are known to all of us, young and old! We hope this will be annual event with Terry and hope to do more to benefit CAMP Rehoboth in the future."

Gallery 50 is located at 50 Wilmington Avenue next to the Henlopen City Oyster House and Salt Air restaurants. For more information and a preview of the collection, go to their Facebook page, call 302-227-2050, or email info@gallery50art.com
