Izzie Delario is a focused and fit UMass field hockey player

All-American heading into her senior season
July 14, 2016

Izzie Delario is the answer to a trivia question: “Who is the only Delaware field hockey player who started on four straight state championship teams at two different downstate high schools?” Delario was on state title teams at Sussex Tech 2010 and 2011 and at Cape Henlopen 2012 and 2013.

Izzie was working the Champions Field Hockey Camp this week, and she represents the journey most players would like to take, including playing on the U17 and U21 junior national teams, being named a two-time all-state and a high school All-American and landing a Division I scholarship to the University of Massachusetts.

“There is so much talent in this region and southeast Pennsylvania,” Delario said. “So much of getting to the next level is mental and hard work. I had a personal trainer in high school, and I played and thought about hockey whenever I could. But it was never a forced thing. I did it because I wanted to do it. And here at Cape, the girls from hockey and lacrosse are just winners; they don’t ever back down and know how to battle.”

Delario returns for her senior season Aug. 9, where she is a returning All-American who moves between midfield and forward.

“Division I sports are demanding; any athlete will tell you that, and so much is the mental approach and confidence,” Delario said.
