J. Conn Scott underwrites RAL 68th Annual Cottage Tour of Art

May 27, 2017

Now in its 68th year, the Rehoboth Art League's Cottage Tour of Art will be underwritten by J. Conn Scott, a business that has been a proud supporter of RAL's event for more than a decade. "Being part of the Rehoboth Art League's Cottage Tour of Art has been the greatest partnership that J. Conn Scott has had," says Richard Scott, co-owner and president of the popular fine furnishings business.

Since 1949, the Cottage Tour has been a staple of the league's art-driven events, showcasing the local creativity of artists, architects, interior designers, landscape designers and homeowners in the Rehoboth Beach vicinity. In addition to featuring a number of area homes, the tour also annually includes a redesigned Peter Marsh Homestead, the art league's historic 1743 property that housed both the founder of Henlopen Acres and the Rehoboth Art League itself. The antiques that usually adorn the building are removed for Cottage Tour days so the first-floor rooms can be transformed by the event underwriters, J. Conn Scott.

Each year, Richard and Lisa Scott completely repurpose the Homestead rooms from period vignettes to contemporary living spaces. Their bright, coastal furniture and accent pieces have recreated the Homestead spaces into everything from fun bedrooms to elegant dining rooms, complete with table settings and chandeliers. Couches, lamps, tables, and rugs - all from the J. Conn Scott showrooms - provide a glimpse into what a more contemporary life in the Homestead might look like. Richard Scott says he is "excited to be part of the house tour and be able to decorate and demonstrate how one location can be transformed year after year."

The 68th Annual Cottage Tour of Art will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, July 11 and 12. The tour is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The 2017 Cottage Tour artist, Marilyn Feldman, has created a pastel of each of the seven homes on this year's tour. Images of Feldman's works will be used in the tour program, and her original pastels will be awarded to the homeowners during a June thank-you reception. Feldman's rendition of the Homestead will be accessioned into the art league's esteemed archives of artwork.

Cottage Tour tickets are $35 per person, and are available for purchase at www.rehobothartleague.org or by calling 302-227-8408. The tour is appropriate for ages 13 and above. By mid-June, tickets will also be available at several local locations which will be announced on the website.

This program is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The division promotes Delaware arts events on www.DelawareScene.com.
