Jack L. Weer, had construction co.

Jack L. Weer of Lewes and Estero, Fla., born Dec. 4, 1921, in New Castle, passed away peacefully at the Delaware Hospice Center Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016, one week before his 95th birthday.

Jack was the first born of E. Clyde and Emily (Davis) Weer. He was a graduate of William Penn High School in New Castle. During World War II Jack served in the Naval Air Corps as an aviation mate first class and was flight engineer on Admiral "Jocko" Clark's aircraft. Following the war, Jack returned home to work on the family farm and founded E. C. Weer & Son Construction Company with his father, which he operated most of his working career. He later became a vice president of Fidelity Bond & Mortgage Company, from where he retired.

Jack's hobbies included golfing, fishing, and boating. (Jack was a licensed charter boat captain.) He was a member of the Ionic Mason's Lodge in Newport, Order of the Eastern Star, and a past president of the Wilmington Manor Lions Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margret (Peg) Renberg of Florida, and his brother, William (Bill) Weer of Rehoboth Beach.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 69 years, Mildred (Baylis); his son, Greg (Renee) of Lewes; his daughter, Cathy (John) Crumlish of Wilmington; grandchildren, Alison Houck, Jennifer (John) Connell, Emily Weer, John Crumlish, Joe Crumlish and Jamie (Dave) Williams; three great-grandchildren, Eddie Houck, John Connell, Lauren Connell; and his sisters, Josephine Hearne and Ruth Cannon.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m., in the chapel at the Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Hwy., New Castle, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m.  Flowers may be sent to Gracelawn Memorial Park.
