Lingo wins Elite and Masters divisions
August 17, 2016

The only thing hotter than the 101-degree heat Aug. 14 was the Jack Lingo lacrosse teams, as they took top honors in the Elite A and the Masters A divisions of the nationally known Ocean City Lacrosse Classic.

The Jack Lingo Elite A team defeated NYAC lacrosse club from New York 8-5 in the final, while the Jack Lingo Masters A squad downed Annapolis-based Smartlink 9-1.

“It’s just the second year of us having a Masters Division team,” said player/coach Jack Lingo. “The defense played outstanding in the final against Smartlink. Our defense wore them down and we scored off of good possessions.”

Only having 18 players on the Elite squad, the Lingo team played tough in the heat against the NYAC team that had in excess of 30 players available.

“The Elite A team had great chemistry,” said Lingo. “They played hard and came together to put together a great final win over NYAC.”

Lingo attackman Matt Hickman was named MVP for the Elite squad, while Chris Gordan took MVP honors for the Masters team.

The OC Lacrosse Classic hosts some of the best talent and teams in the United States. More than 100 teams compete each year with some of the best lacrosse competition in the country.
