James J. ‘Beav’ Atkins, past post commander

James J. "Beav" Atkins, 78, of Ocean View, formerly of Wilmington, passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at his home. He was born in Wilmington, Jan. 20, 1939, son of the late James Edward Atkins and Pearl (Phillips) Atkins.

Beav was a graduate of Wilmington High School class of 1956. Beav proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1956-59. He worked out of the UA Local 74 Plumber & Pipefitters Union in Newark. He was also the past commander of the Mason Dixon VFW Post 7234 in Ocean View.

Beav is survived by his loving wife of 27-and-a-half years, Margaret W. Atkins; a stepson, Robert Starkey Jr.; and four siblings, Ann Knight, James Hunter, R.B. Hunter and Marie Lucas.

Services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Beav's name to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
