James J. Hickman, Suburban Propane retiree

James J. Hickman, 71, of Milton, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. He was born Monday, Nov. 12, 1945, in Lewes, son of the late John A. and Edda M. (Long) Hickman.

Mr. Hickman grew up in Lewes and was a graduate of Cape Henlopen High School. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Mr. Hickman started a lifelong career with Suburban Propane, retiring after 34 years. He was a 40-year charter member and 25-year Pilgrim of Lewes-Rehoboth Moose Lodge 646, American Legion Post 17 and the Henlopen Grange. Mr. Hickman was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Lewes. In his free time he enjoyed stock car racing, spending time at the Moose Lodge and time spent with his family.

Mr. Hickman is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Tressia R. Hickman; his sister, Olivia Hudson and her husband James of Harbeson; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Moose services will be held Wednesday, June 14, followed by Christian Funeral Services, all beginning at 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors will immediately follow at Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.
