James W. Adams, farmer, carpenter

James W. Adams, 91, of Laurel, passed away at home Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, while in the care of his family and Delaware Hospice. He was born in Georgetown, July 3, 1926, to the late Ira and Carrie Wilson Adams. He married Virginia Adams, who preceded him in death in 2013. He was also preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

He was an active, self-taught man who was a farmer and a carpenter. He also worked in plumbing, electrical and bulk heading. He enjoyed working in his own workshop, gardening and attending various steam shows. He loved a good joke and helping others. Most of all he was a big family man.

He is survived by his only daughter, Gail Stevenson and her husband Robert, of Laurel. He is also survived by a granddaughter, Tracy Ellsworth and her husband Allen, of Seaford. He has two great-grandchildren, Matthew Adams (Raelyn) and Justin Ellsworth (Maranda) and one great-great-grandson, Jaxzen Ellsworth. He is survived by four sisters Sally Wharton (James), Lois Truitt (Jake), Eva and Gertrude; and two brothers Al (Sandy) and Nelson (Barbara). In addition, he is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Finally he is survived by his two beloved granddogs, Shiloh and Comet.

A funeral service and Celebration of His Life will be held at Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro Saturday, Jan. 20, at noon. Friends may call one hour prior at 11 a.m. for viewing and visitation. Pastor Jeff Hudson will officiate. Interment will follow in Carney's Cemetery in Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
