Members of the Lewes Historical Society came as pirates for an exhibit on ballast. Kids like Tessa McNerney, in blue, and her mother, Heather, named their own pirate vessel - a styrofoam bowl - and then tried to see how many rocks could be put into the bowl before it would sink. Playing the role of pirate was society Director of Education Marcos Salaverria.
Delaware Seashore State Parks held a bridge demonstration as kids made their own bridges out of toothpicks and marshmallows. The bridges were then weight tested to see how much weight they could hold before collapsing.
Despite rainy weather, The Jefferson School in Georgetown took part in the first of the school’s two Science Saturdays Oct. 1.
Future scientists had a chance to create their own bee box, a type of miniature beehive made by drilling holes in a piece of wood and then attaching a roof. The bee boxes were a display put on by Bill Nelson and students from Salisbury University. Shown are Salisbury student Laura Mrugalski, in gray, helping Abby Bogan make her box.
