The Jefferson School students assemble gift bags for veterans

January 1, 2017

The student leadership at The Jefferson School in Georgetown wrapped up its first semester of service for the school year by helping dozens of local veterans. For four weeks, Student Council members collected cold-weather clothes items and personal hygiene supplies to benefit veterans at the Georgetown Outpatient Clinic, which helps veterans with primary healthcare, mental health and social services. In all, student leaders collected enough items to assemble 50 gift bags for clinic patients. The bags were delivered to the clinic Dec. 19.

All the items for the gift bags came from Jefferson School students, teachers, staff and parents. Class President Zoe Peters said, "Helping veterans during this time of year was an easy decision for us to make. It feels good to honor these men who served our country."

Already this semester, Student Council collected for Stuff the Bus for the Food Bank of Delaware with over a ton of nonperishable items donated. They also made sure each child at Seaford House received gifts for the holidays. Next semester, The Jefferson School Student Council will undertake efforts that will benefit Pennies for Patients and Prevent Child Abuse Delaware. To benefit the school, they adopted projects that will address school spirit, green projects, school improvement and school marketing.
