Jim Gerald, proud veteran

Jim Gerald, 79, of Millsboro, formerly of Salem, N.J., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Thursday, June 21, 2018.

Jim retired in 1999 from Public Service Electric & Gas Company after 25 years of service at the Salem Nuclear Generating Station, and prior to that worked at DuPont's Chambers Works for 11 years. 

Jim served his country as a lance corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was awarded a Good Conduct Medal during his service. Jim was a member of the Marine Corps League and American Legion Post 28 where he supported many activities and served on the House Committee.

Jim was a former NASCAR pit crew member, and was an avid fan of the sport most of his life. Jim also enjoyed camping, gardening, traveling, singing, dancing to country music and participating in 4-H events with his daughter.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years, Sandra Lee (Disbrow) Gerald; daughter Jacqueline Jane (Gerald) DeSanctis (Rick) of Mullica Hill, N.J.; two grandchildren, Savannah Lane Racer of Mullica Hill and Austin James Racer of Pennsville, N.J.; three stepgrandchildren, Adam DeSanctis, Lori DeSanctis and Erica DeSanctis of Warrington, Pa.; brother-in-law Russell Lane Disbrow (Eileen) of Tampa, Fla.; and nieces, Tracey Gralley (Glenn) of Pennsville, N.J., and Stephanie Atkinson (Rich) of Cape Coral, Fla.; BJ Robinson, Randall Robinson and David Robinson, as well as other extended family.

Jim was preceded in death by his dog Maggie; and his parents, Tullis Grant Gerald and Charlotte Mae (Porter) Gerald.

A memorial service will be held Friday, June 29, at 11 a.m., at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.
