Jo Anne Elizabeth White, Millsboro Post Office retiree

July 18, 2016

Jo Anne Elizabeth White, 76, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and long-time resident of Ellendale, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2016, of complications due to dementia and Parkinson’s.

Born in Endicott, N.Y., March 20, 1940, Jo Anne was the daughter of the late John and Gertrude Barnum. Jo Anne grew up in northern Pennsylvania, graduating from Northeast Bradford High School.

Jo Anne retired after serving 20 years in the Millsboro Post Office, and was well admired by the people on her route.

Jo Anne is survived by her loving husband, William White; and by the children and grandchildren who already miss her so much, including her daughters Terry Tillman, Wendy White, Kathy Wagner and Karen Hall, and son William White II; grandchildren Tammy Pena, Michelle Velez, Hannah White, Sarah Balding, Emily Hall, Rachael Tillman, and Bethany Hall; and great-grandchildren Olivia Pena, Jax Pena, Jacob Pena and Jonah Velez.

Jo Anne and her husband built a house together in Ellendale where she lived her final days. They enjoyed raising and spoiling two short-haired brown dachshunds, their favorite animal. Together, they enjoyed spoiling their grandchildren, working in a tag-team fashion, much to the chagrin of their children.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 21, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Interment will be at Henlopen Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers donations in Mrs. White’s memory can be made to Ellendale Vol. Fire Dept., PO Box 5, Ellendale, DE 19941, and/or Greenwood Vol. Fire. Co., PO Box 1, Greenwood, DE 19950.
