Joan E. Koch, outdoors girl

Joan E. Koch, 70, of Dagsboro passed away Friday, March 16, 2018, at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford.

She was born Oct. 5, 1947, in Elizabeth, N.J., a daughter of the late Henry A. and Elise (Reelle) Damen.

At age 53, Joan retired after working at various medical offices as a receptionist and medical assistant.

On June 8, 1968, she married Ronald H. Koch, who survives her. They celebrated almost 50 years of marriage. Joan and Ron lived in Flemington, N.J., for 28 years before retiring and building a house in Clarksville.

She was an outdoors girl, and liked working in her garden and working with her patio flowers and rose garden. She enjoyed walking and riding her bike in Holts Landing Park. Joan enjoyed her trips in the motorhome during retirement, touring the United States, and having many adventures. Among the many trips, she enjoyed their Alaskan cruise, hot air ballooning in Pennsylvania, and fishing, clamming and crabbing on their boat in the Indian River.

Joan was a soft-spoken girl with a beautiful smile, big blue eyes and an inviting personality. She will be missed by her friends and family.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a niece, Karen; nephew, Ed; and stepnieces, Lori and Lynn.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 24, at 11 a.m.,at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brandywine Valley SPCA-Georgetown, 22918 Dupont Blvd., Georgetown, DE 19947.
