Joan A. Flemister, devoted to her family

Joan A. Flemister, 81, of Ocean View, formerly of Baltimore, Md., passed away Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Lewes. She was born Monday, Jan. 27, 1936, in Baltimore, Md., daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes (Stonis) Wargo.

Mrs. Flemister grew up in Baltimore and graduated from St. Paul's School for Girls. She worked at various employers in Baltimore, including Montgomery Wards, RPS Auto Parts, and First National Bank from which she retired. She was a parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church in Ocean View, and St. Jerome Catholic Church in Baltimore, In her free time, Mrs. Flemister enjoyed puzzles, board games, bowling, crocheting, reading, and her weekly dinner at Long Neck Diner. Above all, she enjoyed time spent creating memories with her family. Mrs. Flemister was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and dear friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Flemister was preceded in death by her one son, Michael, in 2009. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, John "Charlie" Flemister Sr.; her five children: John Flemister Jr. and his late wife F. Theresa of Baltimore. Jo Ann Smith and her husband Barry of Baltimore, Dennis Flemister of Baltimore, Edward Flemister and his wife Karen Falkenstein of Lewes, and Karen Fitzgerald and her husband David of Inman, S.C.; her eight grandchildren: John Flemister III, Vanessa Flemister, Melissa Evans and her husband Lewis, Nicole Smith, Katrina Smith and fiancé Scott Tiffin, Nicholas Flemister and his wife Brittany, Kristina Shaw, and Zachary Fitzgerald; her five great-grandchildren: Phoenix, Penelope, Delaney, Isabella and Alexis; her two sisters: Mary Phillips of Baltimore and Martina Jadgman of Culpeper, Va.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Funeral Services were held Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes. Chapel Committal Service followed at 1 p.m., at Delaware Veterans Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.
