Joann Druscilla Riley Long, government retiree

Joann Druscilla Riley Long of Rehoboth Beach passed away peacefully, surrounded by her husband and seven children Friday, Dec. 1 2017, at Country Meadows Assisted Living in York, Pa.

The former Joann Druscilla Riley was born July 4, 1926, in Youngwood, Pa., to John Scott Riley and Marybelle Minerd Riley. Joann was a graduate of Youngwood High School, Class of 1944. Joann wed Hubert Francis Long, also of Youngwood, Nov. 11, 1949, where they resided until relocating to Arlington, Va., and then Mitchellville, Md., in 1955. Joann was employed by the Armed Forces Security Agency, the precursor to the National Security Agency, until 1956.

In 1956, they moved to Glen Burnie, Md., where she was a full-time mother and homemaker. She later worked at Anne Arundel Community College. Upon retirement in 1982, Mr. and Mrs. Long moved to Vero Beach, Fla., where they spent winters, while taking up residence in Rehoboth Beach during the summers.

Eventually, in the mid-’90s, they relocated full time to Rehoboth Beach. Joann is the mother of eight children, Druscilla L. Burke of Crownsville, Md., F. John Long, George Scott Long of York, Pa., Christopher J. Long of Frankford, Richard A. Long of Rehoboth Beach, Letitia A. Long of Arlington, Patrick A. Long (deceased), and Suzanne M. Long of Baltimore, Md. Mrs. Long also has 11 grandchildren and has been blessed with 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by five siblings: Markle, Mary Louise, Catherine, Arminta Imogene and Virginia.

Services will be held at a later date in both Rehoboth Beach and Youngwood.
