John ‘Jack’ M. McCarty Jr., had wealth of knowledge

John "Jack" M. McCarty Jr., 70, of Lewes, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. He was born Aug. 9, 1947, in Lewes, son of the late John M. McCarty Sr. and Beverly (Howarth) McCarty.

Mr. McCarty graduated from Lewes High School, Class of 1965. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He grew up on Lewes Beach and worked at Mac's Bait & Tackle Shop which was owned by his father and grandfather. For 37 years, Mr. McCarty worked for DuPont Nylon Plant in Seaford, until his retirement in 2004.

Mr. McCarty enjoyed surf fishing, traveling and competing in dart competitions. He was a well-known patron of Irish Eyes Restaurant and Bar in Lewes, where he was often found socializing with his friends. Mr. McCarty had a wealth of knowledge regarding a multitude of topics, and enjoyed sharing his adventures with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. McCarty was preceded in death by his brothers, Patrick Jay McCarty in 2001, Richard Alan McCarty in 2005 and Michael Lee McCarty in 2013. He is survived by his children, John M. McCarty III (Jill) of Harbeson, and Jan Ezell (Bryson) of Georgetown; his four grandchildren: Megan, Keller, Alex and Colin; and one great-grandchild, Kenleigh.

Services will be announced at a later date in 2018. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
