John ‘Jack’ R. Hammond, Sussex business owner

John "Jack" R. Hammond, 76, of Millsboro, passed away Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, surrounded by his family.  He was son of the late Dr. John C. and Charlotte Hammond and brother to the late Kay Lewis and brother-in-law Richard Lewis.

 Jack graduated from Bridgeville High School in Bridgeville in 1958. He then attended The University of Delaware from which he received a bachelor’s degree in agriculture in 1962. He received an early honorable discharge from the U.S. Army 2nd lieutenant due to health issues.

 Jack worked with the DuPont Company then became president of Crompton Townsend Park in Wilmington. Jack and partner Gary McCrea purchased Rust-Weir Hardware & Supply Company in Georgetown. He and partners went on to build the Georgetown Professional Park that he operated. He then went on to become a real estate agent with Century 21. Jack was past president of Dewey Beach Lions Club and recipient of the Melvin Joseph Fellowship Award. He also was a member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Rehoboth.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Mary Ann Hammond of Millsboro; his daughters, Amy Hammond Lamaster and her husband Eddie, Jennie McCabe Severs and her husband Don, and Tracey McCabe Yeager and her husband Steve; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sons.

Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 23, at 11 a.m., at St. George's Episcopal Chapel, 20274 Beaver Dam Road, Harbeson, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Friends may also visit with the family Tuesday, Aug. 22, from 7 to 9 p.m., at St. George’s Episcopal Chapel. Interment will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

With deepest gratitude, the family wishes to thank Delaware Hospice staff and center for their highly skillful and compassionate care they gave to Jack. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
