John C. ‘Jack’ Ellingsworth, former prison warden

John C. "Jack" Ellingsworth of Georgetown passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md. Jack was the son of the late Charles H. and Theresa (Rilley) Ellingsworth.

Jack was born and grew up locally on farms in Georgetown. He graduated from Georgetown High School, class of 1949. He briefly attended Kentucky Military Academy. He served our nation in the U.S. Army in Korea. He spent 37 years of adult life working in the Delaware prison system, rising to position of warden at the Sussex Correctional Institute.

He was a member of the Odd Fellows of Georgetown, American Legion Harbeson Post and was very active in the Class of ‘49 alumni activities. His hobbies and passions included coaching Little League, camping, fishing, gardening, spending time with family and caring for a variety of pets. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith; daughter Susan Saxton; and his sister, Olive Brickner.

He leaves behind his three children, Allen Ellingsworth of Georgetown, Marie Ellingsworth, and Lisa Forney and her husband Sheldon of Selbyville; four grandchildren, Payton Saxton, Jack Saxton, Eric Boone and Kristopher Boone; four great-grandchildren, Reagan, Aspen, Kameron and Clark; and a special niece, Frances Burnham of Seaford.
Services will be private.
