John M. Barnette Sr., retired custodian

July 17, 2017

John M. Barnette Sr., 61, of Milford, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 15, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Betty (Stevens) Thomas.

He worked as a custodian for the Milford School District for 26 years before retiring in 2015. He was a true Harley Davidson Motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He was a loving husband and best friend to his wife Pam, as well as a loving father and one of a kind, very special Pop-pop. He was always giving, loving, kind and caring. He had an awesome sense of humor, right up until the end. John's greatest joy other than his children were his grandchildren, and the unconditional love that he received from them.

He is survived by his loving wife Pam Barnette; his children Danny Barnette (Lizzette), Kristy Testa, Mike Barnette (Trish), Jenni Preuss (Tim), Johnnie Barnette (Amber) and Valarie Barnette; his loving grandchildren Nate, Antonio, Calab, Kasyah (Sy), Keegan, Morgan, Noah (Nole), Mikaylee, Malleri, Ava, Livi (Libby), and his beloved dog Mollie. He is also survived by his extended family and friends, Dave and Michele Jones, Cindy and Meg Sargent, Bryan (Big Head) and Emma Wilson, and Tom and Becky Stratton.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all of John's healthcare providers who accompanied him on his journey. The family also extends a very special thank you to Vitas Hospice for helping John fulfill his wishes to be home and at peace after his long journey.

At John's request, there will be no service.

"Love you Dad, and I will always be your buddy."

"I kept my promise to you from the first day we found out, that I would never leave you alone. I'm going to miss you like crazy Dad. I love you so much. I will see you on the other side.”

"I'm going to miss hearing your voice every day on my way home from work. I am going to miss seeing you in your chair or in the yard when we pull up to the house. I love you Dad! I miss you so much already."

"Forever and always."

"What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others."
