John R. Crossland, Brandywine retiree

John R. Crossland, 79, of Lewes, formerly of Claymont, passed away Friday, July 21, 2017, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He was born in Wilmington, March 1, 1938, son of the late John Richard Crossland III and the late Marion (Corse) Crossland. 

John was a graduate of Claymont High School and retired from the Brandywine School District in 1983. John and Priscilla moved from Claymont to Lewes in 2014. He was active with the DeMolay International and a lifetime member of the Oriental Lodge #27 AF & AM Masonic Lodge in Wilmington. John volunteered his time with Greyhound Adoptions of Florida Northeast Chapter, where he fostered over 50 greyhounds. He was also a member of the NRA, and enjoyed fishing, boating, camping and playing cards.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly C. Bringle. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Priscilla (Robertson) Crossland; a daughter, Keri M. Erbe and her husband Thomas of Lewes; a sister, Marion Hogan of Wilmington; a son-in-law, Richard Bringle of Wilmington; and two granddaughters, Dana Underwood and her husband Michael of Raleigh, N.C., and Megan R. Erbe of Lewes.

A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, July 27, in the chapel at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. Dupont Hwy., New Castle, where the funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in John's name to Greyhound Adoptions of Florida, PO Box 955, Sparr, FL 32192.
