February 18, 2018

Joyce Alta Wootten Hudson, 65, of Dagsboro, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018. She was born in Harbeson, Aug. 10, 1952, to the late Melvin Reese Wootten and Doris E. Wootten Fisher (who survives her).

Joyce retired from 17 years of service from Walgreens Pharmacy in Millsboro, and had previously worked for many years as a waitress at Sam's Restaurant in Millsboro, and Smith Family Restaurant in Georgetown. During her final years she also served as a waitress at the Mill Pond Restaurant in Millsboro, where she met so many fine people, and she was thankful to have such a great boss over the years.

Joyce attended Carey's United Methodist Church in Millsboro. She was a beloved, kind, caring person who was loved by the community. She simply never met a stranger!

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Virgil W. Hudson; her mother Doris Wootten Carrier, and her beloved stepfather, Donald Carrier. She is also survived by her daughter: Shelly Waples; son-in-law Kevin; and a granddaughter: Taylor; and grandson: Travis. Joyce has two sisters: Linda Hitchens and family; and Thelma Green, her husband Jerry, and family; her sisters-in-law: Rachel Pusey and family, Jennie Caudall and family, Jo Ann Mitchell and family, and Judy Hudson and family. She was preceded in death by her father: Melvin Wootten.

A time of viewing and visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m., at Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro, Wednesday, Feb. 21, to meet with the family. Interment and Committal Rites will be private at a later time at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Joyce's memory to either Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriot Way, Milford, DE 19963, or to Carey's United Methodist Church in Millsboro.
