Judith Lynn Mitchell, had charismatic spirit

February 20, 2018

Judith Lynn Mitchell, 70, of Millsboro passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, surrounded by family at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. She was born there May 30, 1947, to the late Edward G. and Catherine Ringler Hickman.

Judy graduated from Millsboro High School in 1965 where she enjoyed cheerleading and playing basketball. She later joined a bowling league and participated in senior volleyball. She worked as a lab tech at Sterwin Labs and Intercontinental Biologics in Millsboro, a clerk at Sussex Trust, and served the state of Delaware court system in several roles from which she retired.

Through every stage of life Judy formed lasting bonds with her charismatic spirit. She met the love of her life, Roger Mitchell, and they were married Sept. 30, 1981. They created wonderful memories on their farm in Georgetown, owning and training harness race horses, and hosting countless family gatherings and volleyball games in their pool. They moved back into Judy's childhood home when her dear mother Kitty Hickman passed away in 2004. Judy could be found with her bright smile and infectious laugh at home surrounded by family, joyously attending special events and holiday get-togethers; at a restaurant enjoying a delicious meal and coffee with friends; at the racetrack cheering in the stands; and in the winner's circle having the time of her life. She lived life to the fullest; eager to travel; loved spending time with family and friends; enjoyed the company of her pets; and devoted herself to all those who called her sister, friend, aunt and Grandma Judy. Judy was a registered organ donor and as such she did what she has always done best, generously thinking of others, this time in the hope of saving lives.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Roger W. Mitchell Jan. 7, 2018. She is survived by her two stepsons: Keith Mitchell and his wife Karen of Seaford, and Ross Mitchell and his wife Jo Anne who reside in England; her three sisters: Dorothy McQuaid-Moses and husband Charles of Milford, Catherine Hopkins and husband William of Seattle, Wash., and Rebecca Olesh and husband Thomas of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 24, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro where friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m., for a time of visitation with the family. Burial will be held privately at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Autism Delaware, 924 Old Harmony Road, Suite 201, Newark, DE 19713, or to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215.
