Jusst Sooup Ministry fundraiser set Feb. 11 at Lewes Senior Center

February 2, 2017

A fundraiser will be held Saturday, Feb. 11, from noon until 3 p.m., at the Lewes Senior Center, 32083 Janice Road in Lewes. All donations will be given directly to the Jusst Sooup Ministry. Volunteers and friends of Jusst Sooup will provide a variety of lunch offerings and nonalcoholic beverages, and music will be donated by The Reminders. A tax-deductible donation of $15 will be requested at the door.

The Reminders' music is a unique blend of Americana and folk rock with deep roots in blues, country and gospel. The trio consists of longtime local musicians John Thompson, Ed Shockley, and Kevin Short. Their music will speak to the soul. Shockley wrote a song for Dale Dunning several years ago called "Jusst Sooup," and they will sing it for her as well as other hits at the fundraiser. More information about The Reminders is at www.thereminders.net.

The ministry strictly relies on donations. This fundraiser is a volunteer attempt to help Dunning continue her efforts to support the low-income and homeless in the community. The soup kitchen is open every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Church services are held every Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. with soup being served until noon.

Dunning serves a wide variety of homeless, jobless and working low-income people who go for food, clothing, sometimes shelter in a local motel, or just a friendly ear and a hug. Over the past 19 years Dunning has opened 18 soup kitchens in all three Delaware counties with the help of her family and volunteers. On Aug. 21, 2011, a jubilant crowd cheered, "Move that bus!" as ABC's “Extreme Makeover Home Edition,” Schell Brothers and hundreds of volunteers revealed the Jusst Sooup Ranch to the Rev. Dale Dunning, her husband Ken, and son Brooks. Although there were several unforeseen obstacles to overcome, The Ranch has continued to serve its purpose to this day.
